The Thomas H. Raddall Library in Liverpool is set to open this Saturday, February 22, at 10 a.m., welcoming patrons to its new location at 54 Harley Umphrey Drive. This move from the previous downtown site to the municipally owned Liverpool Business Development Centre has been in progress since December 2024, with the Region of Queens allocating up to $1.26 million for renovations.
The new library space offers several enhancements over the former location. It is more spacious and fully accessible, featuring a community kitchen and a versatile program room designed to host a variety of events and workshops. Additionally, plans are in place to install raised garden beds outside, supported by funding from the Nova Scotia government, to encourage community engagement and learning.
To address concerns about accessibility, particularly the lack of sidewalks and limited lighting around the new site, South Shore Public Libraries has partnered with Queens County Transit to offer free transportation. A shuttle service will run every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., connecting the Liverpool Farmers’ Market to the library, and ensuring that all community members have convenient access to the new facilities.
The library will maintain its previous operating hours:
While the library will begin operations this Saturday, a grand opening celebration is planned for April 5. This event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, cake, and various activities to commemorate the new chapter in the library’s service to the community.
