The Africville shooting has been added to the Major Unsolved Crimes Reward Program in Nova Scotia.
The province says it is the first time a major crime has been added to the program that is not a homicide or suspicious missing person’s case.
The program is an additional tool to help police gather information on unsolved crimes and the reward amount will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
It was in the evening of July 27th when hundreds gathered at the 41st Africville reunion when shots were fired.
Five people were injured.
Minister of Justice Becky Druhan says gun violence in our communities is unacceptable.
“Everyone who came together to celebrate the rich culture and resilience of Africville that weekend had the right to feel safe,” says Druhan.
“This mass shooting event had and continues to have a serious and heartbreaking impact on the community, victims and their families. It also affected us as a province. I ask anyone who knows something to please come forward. You can help make our province safer and bring justice for the victims.”
Anyone with information should call the Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program at 1-888-710-9090.
People who come forward with information must provide their name and contact information and may be called to testify in court. All calls will be recorded.
People who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers of Nova Scotia at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Including this case, there are now 119 active cases in the program.
