Two councillors from Millbrook First Nation have resigned after a sexually-explicit group chat was leaked.

A woman who was named in the chat posted screenshots on Facebook last week, which included derogatory statements about several women in the community.

Councillors Garrett Gloade and Pius Knockwood were allegedly part of the chat, and have tendered their resignations.

In a statement, the First Nation says RCMP are aware of the group chat and are investigating.

They say several people have been victimized by this incident, and ask people to be cautious of creating further trauma when sharing information.

Supports have also been set up in the community.
