This is in the final weekend of campaigning for the federal leaders.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre outlined on Friday his plans for the first 100 days in office if he forms government on Monday.
He promises to implement several components of his platform, which he says will make life more affordable, stop crime and boost the Canadian economy.
“As part of our 100 days of urgent action, we will pass a bill that repeals the no development Law C69. We will reverse the tanker ban. We will launch a Canada-first reinvestment tax cut. Zero capital gains tax. When you reinvest the proceeds right here in Canada. Bring the money home for a change,” says Poilievre.
He is also committing to keeping MPs in the House of Commons for as long as it takes to get the three pieces of legislation approved.
The Conservative leader is also prepared to take action against the U.S. trade tariffs.
“We will, obviously call President Trump and tell him that the tariffs are destructive, and they should be lifted on day one and a new deal negotiated. But what we will not do is put Canadian taxes effectively Canadian tariffs on Canadian industry.”
Liberal leader Mark Carney was in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, to show support to the steel industry.
Carney says a Liberal government will protect the industry and others threatened by the U.S. trade action.
“We will stand with the auto workers, with the forestry workers, the aluminum workers and above all the steelworkers,” says Carney.
“We will stand with every single Canadian worker targeted by President Trump’s attacks on our country.”
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, who has campaigned on the need to elect as many NDP MPs, continued that thought on Friday.
He says his party will hold the line on things that matter most to Canadians.
“We’re going to fight to keep Canada, Canada,” says Singh.
“We’re going to fight back against the cuts. We’re going to stand up and say, Canada has to work for the people who work in this country, who build this country.”
The federal election takes place on Monday.
